The 113th SIC Congress (Italian Society of Surgery) will take place at Palazzo dei Congressi from the 3rd to the 5th October 2011. The event, called “Surgery Between Tradition and Innovation” will see the participation of over 2500 specialists coming from all over Italy. Among the topics to be discussed during the various congress sessions, “preparation to the surgical intervention, the physiopathology of the operated patient, the operation timing, new suture materials and most of all minimally invasive and robotic surgery techniques”, as explained by Professor Francesco Tonelli, Chairman of the Congress. It is going to be “a rich and stimulating programme – added Tonelli – well balanced between the finalisation of the most recent progresses and the critical evaluation of apparently consolidated notions such as the treatment of rectal carcinoma, of diverticular pathologies and acute cholecystitis. Only through our doubts concerning the improvement of our results, and through showing the pros and cons without prejudice, will we be able to improve our research and progresses”. As in the past editions, the congress will be an important event for young emerging surgeons, as they will be allowed to actively participate in the works, by presenting clinical case studies and discussing recent scientific contributions.
