20 February 2012

The Colloqui Fiorentini (The Florentine Conversations) – Nihil Alienum is back at Palazzo dei Congressi and at the Palaffari. It will be held from the 23rd to the 25th February 2012, seeing the participation of 200 students and teachers from 130 different high schools from all over Italy. The event is promoted by Diesse Firenze (Didattica e Innovazione scolastica – School Didactics & Innovation) in cooperation with the Tuscany School Department, the Foundation of the Opera di Santa Croce and the Florence Marco Polo Technical Institute for Tourism.

This year, the event will focus on Italian poet and writer Ugo Foscolo with the title”Ugo Foscolo. Tu passeggerai sovra le stelle” (Ugo Foscolo – You Will Walk over the Stars). All the various areas will be turned into one agora which will change the traditional relationship between teachers and their students. A jury chaired by Edoardo Rialti will evaluate the 400 mini-dissertations prepared by the students on the personality and works of the famous nineteenth-century poet Ugo Foscolo . “We want to bring back the joy of learning at school – explains Prof. Pietro Baroni, Director of the event – far from schemes and ideologies, letting teachers work together with their students.  This is a new idea of school, born from the direct everyday experience, and we aim at recognising and enhancing the best energies within our national schools”. The programme features an itinerary through the places linked to the presence of Foscolo in the city, among them the Church of Santa Croce, a national Pantheon for the great Italian personalities of the past. Another itinerary will be “Florence between the Nineteenth and the Twentieth Century. Places Linked to  Great Literary Works”.
